Informal Learning in ICT Enabled Environment
The impact on informal learning in information and communication technology enabled learning environment. to achieve the goal, two different types of approaches are considered. One is in childhood level learning and the other is in adulthood level learning. This two childhoods and adulthood learner communities are being facilitated in two different ICT enabled learning environment.
Childhoods learning environment is facilitated under the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) pilot project implemented by the Ministry of Education in Sri Lanka. Blackwood School, one of the pilots, a Tamil medium primary school is selected for this study. In this school all the students and their teachers owning a laptop (learning tool). They are experiencing teaching learning activities for formal learning based on the curriculum and everyday informal learning activities beyond the curriculum using the tool OLPC.
Adulthood learning environment is facilitated by the development of the concept of Rich Interactive Learning Object (RILO). The RILO is specially developed learning objects based on different learning theories and available up to date ICT developments like web 2.0 so that to experience maximum learning. Ten different RILOs are facilitated via a learning gateway on Moodle VLE. Adult learners (not limited to undergraduate) are being involved to experience better online learning using these RILOs.
